“A Family Run Business Since 1964”
Peter Hartley started his bakery business in 1964, inspired by watching his father George bake for the local community for many years.
Now proudly in its third generation, the Hartley family has come a long way since George was delivering bread by horse and cart in the 1930s. Baking has always been at the heart of the family.
Peter established the bakery in Lindley with a shop at the front in 1964, followed by a second shop on Bradford Road in Brighouse in 1970. With the support of his wife Christine, the business grew into the success it is today.
After 36 years of 4 a.m. starts, Peter retired in 2000 — though he admits he’s never quite mastered the lie-in!
Now proudly in its third generation, the bakery remains a true family business. Peter’s son Jason runs the bakery, while daughters Sarah and Catharine manage the shops. Together, they oversee daily operations and ensure fresh bread is baked every day using time-honoured methods.
Peter and Christine remain closely involved, always on hand to offer support and guidance, keeping the Hartley family tradition alive.
